The Final Curtain Call

We are approaching the final phase of our paper here in our Children's Literature class with the deadline set on next week (Yikes!). Somehow, amid swarms of paper works, I feel glad that I was able to make such a collection because for one, I was able to get to know Mindanao a little better than before. Secondly, I get acquainted with the library facilities once again (A thing I know would bore people to death, but I find it really interesting) and lastly, because I had come to appreciate local literature - something I haven't really done before.

Now the question that I am trying to resolve, as I reach this end phase is - Will I be a good teacher?

I would like to believe that teaching is my calling because though I have tried hard to evade it, I still pursued it like a forlorn lover in the end. But sometimes I still ask myself, "Am I truly made for it?"

Prof. Villafania reminds us never to be half-baked educators. Sometimes I wonder, how do I know if I am baked just right? Is it when I finish all my education courses? When I pass the LET? Or is it just when I can recite  Shakespear's sonnet in my sleep?

In the end, I think I shall need to take the step forward myself. If I am always afraid to teach, how can I be a teacher? Besides unconquered fear is the worst fear of all, and I will refuse to succumb to such fear.

The compilation is almost at its end, but my life is just in its peak.

A Tour in PNU's Library

Me being serious...

The front facet of the library. I felt like being a kid again in this place.

The front door. We had a hard time taking this photo because library personnel kept popping in and out.

Notice that play things and books are included in the shelves as part of the library's instructional materials

The book we had arduously transcribed

Drawings of Rizal as a child being taught by her mother on the library walls

I have a feeling this is the "Storytelling Corner"

My ever helpful mom transcribing "Mamayog Aken" in a yellow pad
Last Tuesday, I went to PNU CTL (Philippine Normal University Center for Teaching and Learning) to see if we could be accomodated for our pilot testing in our Assessment and Evaluation subject. Being asked to wait for several hours, I decided to look if there were any books for children's literature in the said school. Luckily, there had been a Children's Literature Section in the library, and with the help of my mother, who had accompanied me in the said journey, we began the long and hard transcription of Mindanao children's folk songs to while away the time.

Although taking pictures were prohibited, I was able to "smuggle" these footages. Hopefully I wouldn't get reprimanded (That is of course if no one tells them what I did).

Curriculum Copies..So Far So Good

Finally, I have been able to secure a copy of the syllabus that the College of Literature, Linguistics and Languages is using for their Children's Literature course (which they aptly call Children and Adolescent Literature). Earlier, I had been able to secure a copy of FEU's syllabus in the website  http://patientnumber23.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dummiesss&action=display&thread=436&page=1

Interestingly, both syllabus give focus not only on written works but also on how to effectively present them. I hope I could be able to get my hands into their lectures as well. I think that would be pretty interesting.

Meanwhile, I was able to hand in my midterm report in my progress regarding my Mindanao children's literature collection (I thought the deadline was that Wednesday). Hopefully, the collection will go as smoothly as planned.

As always, I am busy with encoding and collecting data, so off I go to work again ^_^.
